Thaxted Essex UK_Annual Thaxted Morris Dancing Weekend_11-12 June 2022
Sunday Morning 12 June. Morris Dancers process through Thaxted to Thaxted Church-St John the Baptist with our Lady and St Laurence- where a mass was held and a Offertory Dance by Thaxted Morris was danced inside the church. Conrad Noel known as the Red Vicar of Thaxted helped to revive the Thaxted Morris in the 1920’s. A bust of Conrad Noel is in the church seen here on the left in the picture.
Fourteen Morris Dancing sides danced through 14 villages in north west Essex for the first time since Covid restrictions were lifted for the Thaxted Morris Weekend. The sides or teams danced during the day in pub car parks and on the streets before processing through Thaxted in the late afternoon and again in the evening culminating in massed dancing in Town Street Thaxted. The evening concluded just after 10pm when all street lights are turned off and Thaxted side perform the mysterious Abbots Bromley Horn Dance in the dark to the sound of a single fiddle.
