Berlin 2009. Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall which I photographed in 1989 for the Independent Newspaper I returned to photograph the changes that have happened over the past 20 years..The GLIENICKER BRIDGE between Berlin and POTSDAM. The bridge was the border between east and west and was where many spy exchanges took place. U2 pilot Gary Powers was swapped here in 1962 for KGB Officer Rudolf Abel. In 1986, the Soviet dissident ANATOLY SCHARANSKY was freed across this bridge. In 1989 I watched as thousands of East Germans crossed the bridge from Potsdam to the west and their new freedom..COPYRIGHT PHOTOGRAPH BY BRIAN HARRIS © 2009.07808-579804
