Berlin 2009. Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall which I photographed in 1989 for the Independent Newspaper I returned to photograph the changes that have happened over the past 20 years..The newly restored Altes Museum, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and opened in 1830, said to be one of the most beautiful neo classical structures in the world is seen here on Museum Island. The 70 ton granite bowl was the biggest in the world when placed in the Lustgarten in front of the museum in 1831, designed by Peter Joseph Lenne. The Lustsgarten was paved over in the Nazi era and used for as a parade ground, it remained as such until 1989..Note bullet holes from the fighting that took place as the Russians advanced in 1945..COPYRIGHT PHOTOGRAPH BY BRIAN HARRIS © 2009.07808-579804
