Berlin 2009. Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall which I photographed in 1989 for the Independent Newspaper I returned to photograph the changes that have happened over the past 20 years..The memorail site where East German Peter Fechter, 18, died after being shot by East German border guards in 1962. He bled to death at the point where the red spot is in the photograph at the base of the Berlin Wall marked by the horizontal stones in the gutter. The guards in the west who could see and hear him dying could do nothing to help as he was still in the Eastern zone only a 100 meters from Check Point Charlie..COPYRIGHT PHOTOGRAPH BY BRIAN HARRIS © 2009.07808-579804
